Sgraffito Tour with Pauline Martinet

Engadin houses possess a rare beauty, unmatched anywhere in the world. Nowhere else will you find such a variety of frescoes and sgraffito – the delicate art of carving into a surface. The depictions range from primitive symbols to elegant Renaissance scenes. Learn how to interpret these facades on a guided afternoon walk through the historic Engadin villages. It’s an ideal experience for families, best paired with an unforgettable sledge ride through the picturesque streets.

Pauline Martinet is a renowned graphic designer and creative director. She has championed numerous projects that delve into the spirit of key places, including a city guide for her hometown of Lausanne. She moved to Zuoz four years ago, pursuing her passion for the Engadin, and her extensive knowledge of sgraffito have led her to write a book on the artform, due to be published next year.

“When I first visited Guarda in the Lower Engadin, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the houses. I immediately fell in love with the architectural proportions, the naïve elegance of the graffiti, their historical and emotional background.” – Pauline Martinet
